Law Enforcement Agencies Help Kick-off TBI Awareness MonthADRS State Head Injury Coordinator April Turner and TBI Care Coordinator for Clay County Whitney Storey presented to the Ashland Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Department in cooperation with their Mental Health Liaison, Sarah Mckemie. The training included State of Alabama TBI Services and Supports, TBI 101, Screening for a History of TBI, understanding how individuals with TBI can present in a crisis, and identifying and utilizing de-escalation techniques specific to the TBI Population.

Opelika Students Learn About Distracted Driving and Brain HealthApril Turner, State Head Injury Coordinator with ADRS, Miss Alabama USA Katelyn Vinson, and the TRIP (Translational Research for Injury Prevention) Lab at UAB gave a presentation in August to the Opelika High School Career Tech-Health Science and Driver’s Ed classes about the State Traumatic Brain Injury Programs, Brain Health, and Driving Injury Prevention.

Pilot Club Donates Brain Bags for TBI Consumers and FamiliesThe Pilot Club of Lee County recently donated cognition bags for all new consumers and their families within the Pediatric and Adult TBI Care Coordination Program of the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS). The Pilot Club created and assembled over 250 bags. Pilot International's Mission is to influence positive change in communities throughout the world by coming together in friendship and service, focusing on brain safety and health, and supporting those who care for others.
